“An enrapturing original story by Emily and Ned Hartford. The inventive and endlessly intriguing storylines blend ancient myth with sci-fi acumen.
The potency of Metra is in its spillage onto the streets, its seepage into your awareness as audiences reintegrate into reality.”
“A brash, impactful fantasia…A wild amalgam of Greek myth, glam rock, time travel, comedy, and dystopian projection to envision both despair and an inkling of hope.
The snarl of the music with its clever lyrics, the audaciousness of the story, the wonderfully ragged set and over-the-top staging, and above all the marvelous performances, infuse the script with color and energy.”
“Metra posits the interrelation of individual and large-scale stories of transformation.
Metra ultimately advocates against despair…If Metra took the place of something like The Lion King on Broadway, we’d all be better off.”

Flux Theatre Ensemble’s premiere production of Metra engaged Jem Pickard (Superhero Clubhouse) as Climate Action Designer—a new role for the company, and the field. Jem worked with the creative team to design the show through a climate justice lens and create as sustainable a production as possible. Jem also created resources for Metra’s program, which empowered audiences to take climate action, directly connected to the themes of the play.
